Microchips in pets can be valuable tool in locating a lost pet. A common misconception is that these chips can be used to locate an animal like GPS. These microchips are about the size of a grain of rice and can be implanted at any time. They are cost effective and pose little to no risk to the pet. There is only slight discomfort to the pet during implantation, similar to the needles used to give blood donations. Most animals wince from the slight pain and recover well.
