You see your pup rolling around in the grass and the first two thoughts that come to your mind are:
- Aw, how cute!
- Does this mean I have to give him a bath? I just gave him one the other day!
Before you give your pup a bath, it is important to consider the products that you use to wash your dog. Certain products (such as regular human shampoo) might strip natural oils from your pet’s fur and irritate their skin.
At Destination Pet of Woodstock, we use high-quality products so that your pet is clean and fresh. We offer a complete range of professional spa services in a clean and friendly environment and are equipped to provide a number of bathing and grooming options to suit your pet’s needs as well as your own preferences. Determining How Often You Should Give Your Pup a Bath
According to the ASPCA, dogs typically need a bath at least once every three months. However, there are a few factors that determine how often you should give your pup a bath including:
- Coat Type: The length of hair may determine the amount of dirt and grime that gets trapped in your pet’s fur. Generally, longer hair will trap more dirt and will require more frequent baths.
- Health Conditions: Certain health conditions such as skin irritations, surgeries, or something else may require either more or less frequent baths. It is generally advised to consult with your vet on these specific issues.
- Lifestyle and Activity Level: If your pet is outside and very active during the week, then your pup may require more frequent baths to wash off the dirt that may get caught in your pet’s fur. On the other hand, if your pet is mostly indoors during the week, then your pet may not need a bath as often.
- Smell: Basically, if you can smell your dog when he enters the room, it’s probably time for a bath.
Baths are very important for general hygiene and how often you give your pup a bath depends on a number of factors. Contact us and we will be glad to help!
